Lake Isabella
Located at the base of the southern Sierras, Isabella is an excellent trophy fishery. The lake is tucked up in the foothills about 45 miles northeast of Bakersfield. It has complete facilities with eight campgrounds around the lake.

Lake Isabella fed by the Kern River is Kern County's largest body of water with 11,200 surface acres. Isabella Lake was created in 1953 when the U. S. Corps of Engineers built dams across two forks of the Kern River. Isabella Lake is home to some very large Channel Catfish, with many 20 pound fish caught each year. The lake is a hidden treasure for the few anglers that have the knowledge to catch these beast. Isabella is also known for the great Crappie runs each year, the best in Southern California, with many people reporting 50-100 fish per day. The Lake has many different fish to offer; there are catfish, large and small mouth bass, crappie, blue gill, red ear perch, trout and carp.
